The Composer, Violinist & Sound artist Ruby Colley, shares her new vocal work ‘Hello Halo’ inspired by her non-speaking brother’s modes of communication performed with Exaudi Ensemble.

This relaxed matinee performance will open with an exclusive preview of a film by Rod Morris, documenting the process of Hello Halo, giving audiences a view into the world of Paul Colley & this unique collaboration with his sister, Ruby.

The matinee will be responsive to neurodivergent audiences alongside everyone, with plenty of space, support if needed, and accessible lighting levels. This is a short performance in line with these needs, with the film running approximately 14 minutes and Hello Halo running 25 minutes.

The Composer, Violinist & Sound artist Ruby Colley, shares her new vocal work Hello Halo performed with Exaudi Ensemble, a leading vocal ensemble for new music. This composition has been developed alongside Ruby’s brother, Paul Colley.

Despite not using language to communicate, Paul uses a rich repertoire of sounds & gestures. This composition transcribes his expansive, nonverbal communication using live voice and recordings, to make a vocal map of Pauls life & relationships. It is an intimate examination of communication, both subtle and nuanced, and asks questions of what it means to be human.

Conducted by James Weeks, Hello Halo is shaped by Ruby’s own (a neurodiverse musician) & her brother’s lived experience and is aimed at all audiences.

There is also an extended evening performance at 7pm on Sat 1 Feb, featuring the Hello Halo film screening and performance with EXAUDI, as well as a presentation of Ruby’s earlier works Overheard & Underheard. Find out more here.
