Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment – We are Made of Star Stuff

JS Bach Cantata: Himmelskönig, sei willkommen (‘King of Heaven, welcome’), BWV 182
Steven Devine director, harpsichord
Helen Charlston alto
Nicholas Pritchard tenor
Dingle Yandell baritone

with Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell DBE FRS FRSE FRAS

The music: With Easter approaching, we play Bach’s Palm Sunday cantata, telling the hopeful story of Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem.

The science: As a postgraduate student, pioneering astronomer Dame Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered the rotating neutrons starts known as pulsars, considered one of the greatest astronomic discoveries of the 20th century, which ultimately won a Nobel Prize. To round off our season, she explains how we’re all made of star stuff.

Bach, the Universe and Everything is Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment’s very own Sunday service for inquiring and curious minds; a place to bond with music lovers and revel in the wonders of science.
